New fast-charging station for EVs launched in JB city centre

JOHOR BARU: Electric vehicle (EV) owners travelling between Malaysia and Singapore now have a new fast-charging option in the city centre with the launch of Charge+’s first DC fast charging station at Capri by Fraser.

The Turbo360 60kW DC charger, introduced in partnership with SKS Group, marks Charge+’s first installation in Johor and the first of five stations planned under the collaboration.

Strategically located just minutes from Johor Baru City Square and the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex, Capri by Fraser sits in a high-traffic urban zone favoured by Singaporean travellers entering the state. The hotel’s central location makes it an ideal charging stop for both local EV users and cross-border motorists.

Guests and members of the public can now top up their vehicles while staying at the hotel or obtain a full charge before returning to Singapore. The hotel is about two minutes from the checkpoint, positioning it as the closest charging point for cross-border EV commuters.

The rollout at Capri by Fraser is the first phase of a broader deployment plan between Charge+ and SKS Group, with four more fast-charging stations to be installed across SKS-owned properties in Johor.

Charge+ chief executive officer Goh Chee Kiong said the installation reflects their commitment to providing reliable charging infrastructure for both Malaysian and Singaporean drivers.

“Capri by Fraser is a strategic and high-demand location, and we are excited to partner with SKS Group to expand access to fast charging across the border,” he said.

SKS Hospitality head Meera Raj said the partnership underscores the group’s commitment to sustainability in tourism and hospitality.

With EV adoption rising in Malaysia and continued high cross-border traffic from Singapore, the new DC charger is expected to boost charging convenience for drivers in Johor Baru’s city centre.
